I have been using Reddit since 2018. In 2022, I was among the top 9% of karma earners.

Reddit is one of the best places to share technical content on the internet. It is also one of the most ruthless platforms, especially if you don't follow the rules. For example, posting self-promotion material only.

How can you use Reddit to promote your technical blog posts? That will be the focus of this post.

Contribute Contribute Contribute

Resist the urge to start sharing your blog posts after you join the platform. Instead, spend time understanding the platform and commenting on other people's posts.

Next, join the relevant subreddits to your work and keep contributing. Then over time, you can start posting your content. When you get comments or questions on your post, take the time to respond to build engagement and trust.

Follow the rules

Ensure that you read every subreddit's rules before posting anything. The rules are on the right of every subreddit. Not following the rules, for example, not adding a flair where required, will get your content removed automatically.

You can also be banned permanently from some subreddits for not following the rules.

Post to one relevant subreddit

Avoid posting to numerous subreddits at the time.

Posting your work to multiple subreddits appears spammy. Check that the subreddit you want to repost or crosspost to allows that. If the rules allow, then you can proceed to repost or crosspost.

Like all other social media platforms, the secret to getting value from Reddit is giving more than you ask.

If you give genuinely give for a long time without expecting anything in return, you can make an ask and get the support you need. Reddit is not a quick hack for getting your technical content seen.

Start incorporating it into your strategy for long-term and not short-term gains.
